Control4 Integrates With Spotify and iHeartRadio
Just about everyone uses Spotify and iHeartRadio now. A lot of us don't even bother downloading music or buying albums; we rely on streaming services for everything. If Spotify and iHeartRadio don't have what we're looking for, then maybe we'll accept the lesser sound quality found on Youtube if we really want to hear a song. As this is intersecting with the proliferation of smart home solutions to home audio and theater setups, it should come as no surprise that Spotify and iHeartRadio seem poised to become the cornerstones of streaming audio in that market through the new deal they've struck with Control4.
What's The Deal?
The long and short of it is that Control4 will integrate iHeartRadio and Spotify into their Triad One Streaming Amplifier and other products, including the Triad 8-Zone Amplifier. Essentially this allows these amplifiers to work as all-in-one units. In the past, playing your Spotify account through your amp may have involved any number of components to put Spotify through a receiver and into the amplifier. Cutting this deal with Control4 means that these services will be able to be streamed directly through a single device and into your speakers.
Competition and Convenience
Although deals like this frequently stoke worries of monopoly, the fact that Control4 has been making an effort to reach out to a number of streaming service providers to make similar agreements suggests that competition in the marketplace will remain healthy. That is to say that, as long as iHeartRadio has a deal, then Spotify won't monopolize the streaming market and vice versa. This, of course, goes for all other streaming service providers who may have native support added to the devices in the future.
Getting Better Sound Out Of Spotify
A lot of users of Control4 devices may have a distaste for Spotify, or they may feel that their amplifier is being wasted on a lo-fi internet streaming service. However, it should be noted that these same users are often simply misinformed as to Spotify's advanced capabilities. By adjusting streaming quality to 320kbps and closing other internet connections in the home if necessary, it is possible to get incredibly high-quality sound from the service, getting you every penny's worth out of your audio system.
Where they were once a superfluous status symbol for the rich-and-bored, smart homes are quickly becoming a thing of the present. Put simply, in the 2010's, there's no reason not to have all of your entertainment accessible from any room at the push of a button, on the remote or through an app.
